SITE WALK MINUTES
INLAND WETLANDS AND WATERCOURSES COMMISSION
OCTOBER 14, 2015
Present were: Evan Griswold, Dave McCulloch, Tim Rollins, Tom Machnik and Skip DiCamillo.
15-8 – OLD LYME LAND TRUST – Riverview Drive – Repair eroded areas along eastern and western edges of road.
Christina Clayton and Ed Silk for present to walk the site with the commission. Ed Silk presented a map identifying where along Riverview Drive the road was eroding and how the Old Lyme Land Trust’s contractor would be placing a 2” trap rock stone barrier along this eroded area to repair the area and eliminate further erosion along the roadway. The commission members stated there would be no need for a silt fence because the stone would only be placed where there was erosion and was far enough away from the vernal pool that there would not be an impact.
Janet Bechtel joined the walk.
15-13 – ELLIS JEWETT – 7 Grassy Hill Road – Maintenance Dredging of silted areas in pond.
Jewett identified the area to be cleaned out of the pond along Rte. 156 and stated the contractor would be performing all the required digging from the north bank and there would be no need to have equipment on the south side of the pond. The soils removed from the pond would be placed on the north bank for dewatering and taken off site. The contractor selected for this project would be Machnik Bros. Inc.
15-12 – GRAYBILL PROPERTIES – 151 Boston Post Road – Proposing new buiding and associated parking lot.
Seamus Moran identified the building site and parking lot locations. He discussed the runoff from the building and parking areas and described the flow into the catch basins on the Boston Post Road and the “water quality swale” between the parking lot and wetlands. Don Fortunato explained this swale location would filter and reduce the sheet flow from the parking lot and develop a dense stand of vegetation to filter the storm water discharging into the swale. Moran described where the pervious pavers and crushed stone would be installed and the removal of the pines currently located in the wetland area boundary.
